The previous meeting of DSES was held on 2nd December 2014 hosted by the University of Dundee.
The May 2014 meeting of the Deans Group was hosted by Glasgow Caledonian University (Download Meeting Note (PDF)). A range of items were discussed as highlighted below:
1. Campaign for Science and Engineering (CaSE) presented by Dr Sarah Main (Director of CaSE): CaSE Strategy for 2015 General Election and Spending Review, Immigration Policy UK, Improving Diversity in STEM, UK Government Investment in Science. (Download Presentation Slides (PDF))
2. Education Group presented by Professor David Coates: Widening Participation, Embedding Creativity and Innovation in STEM Degree Courses.
3. Enhancing Support for Schools through Collaboration and Interdisciplinary Learning presented by Scott Bryce, SSERC, Education Support Officer, STEM. (Download Presentation (PDF))
4. Research Funding and Unified Graduate Schools discussion led by Professor Arthur Trew and Colin Allison.
5. Links with UK Deans of Science discussion led by Professor Phillip John: Accreditation Criteria and Witty Review.
6. Engineering Professors Council presented by Professor David Harrison: Low participation by ethnic group and the Perkins Review.
At the meeting Professor Iain Hunter retired as Chair of DSES and members thanked him for his significant contribution to the group over many years and wished him well for the future. Professor David Coates (Dean, School of Learning and Teaching, College of Life Sciences, University of Dundee) succeeded Iain as Chair of DSES as of 1st June 2014.
